Hermon Polar 3 Shoot – A “Different” Sort of Shoot

Hermon’s Polar Series #3 was held on January 21st.  It was a different shoot in many ways.  Shoot setup was plagued by the threat of snow and the dubious weather forecasting we have all had to deal with in this “unusual” winter.  The snow stopped around 11:00 AM on Friday and plowing was done around 1:00 PM.  Our very small crew started setup at 1:00, about when we finish a normal setup.  Half the course was set Friday afternoon and the other half set starting at first daylight the morning of the shoot.  Everything was ready by the 9:30 start time but there was little time to “tweak” the target.  A normal final target evaluation would have made some presentation closer/higher/ slower or hopefully easier.  The end result was a difficult shoot with several presentations we have never used before.

The temperature never got above the low teens (better than the -15 when we left Argyle) but there was very little wind and some sun at times. We would like to thank the 40 shooters that braved the cold and a prediction of snow.

Target difficulty didn’t seem to bother Dave Larkin who won HOA with 87.  Jeff St. Pierre was runner-up with 86 (close as you can get to two wins in a row).  Bub Copp was M1 at 85 winning a tie breaker with Micah Parker.  Jim McMullen got the A punch at 73, Bud Barrett won B with 74, Thom Willard won C also with a 74. Congratulations are due Garry Gilpatrick for winning D class and a punch with a 60 over 7 other shooters in his first shoot in the NSCA.  Glen Endre won Hunter with an excellent 72.
